Bethesda-based Marriott Vacations Worldwide Corp., recently spun off from Marriott International Inc., reported net income of $9 million, or 24 cents per share, in its first quarter as a stand-alone company, World Property Channel reports. The results compare with reported net income of $19 million in the first quarter of 2011. The Donohoe Cos. has closed on a $55 million construction loan to build The Gallery of Bethesda, a 17-story, 234-unit residential tower at 4800 Auburn Ave. The building is one of three that will make up D.C.-based Donohoe’s 580,000-square-foot Woodmont Central development in downtown Bethesda. President Barack Obama's housing secretary has launched a roadshow to ensure the benefits of the $25 billion mortgage settlement with the nation's biggest banks will live up to the hype, Reuters reports. The settlement urged but did not require states to use their roughly $2.5 billion portion of settlement funds for housing relief and related efforts, but more than a dozen states are considering using the funds to plug budget holes.
